On Earth, we have a few different energy sources available to us. Currently, we rely on fossil fuels for most of our energy production – things like coal, oil, and gas. These are really energy-rich, which is why we currently use them and have used them in the past.

Our other main option for energy comes from renewable sources, such as wind and solar power. We want to move to these because these don’t produce harmful greenhouse gases which are responsible for climate change. We also only have a limited amount of fossil fuels left on Earth, whereas renewable sources will be available to us for much, much longer in the future.

As to where this energy comes from, a lot of it comes from the sun (in some way or another). Inside the sun, nuclear reactions happen which produce a huge amount of energy. This reaches us in the form of heat and light, which we can use as a source of energy.
